Afuegalpitu White Figar

First Prize of the competition “Afuega'l Pitu White Trapu” the years 2007 and 2008.

The Afuega'l pitu is a unique cheese in the world. In fact it is considered one of the oldest and traditional cheeses from Asturias which was being prepared in all the farmhouses for the simple process of spontaneous curd. It was undoubtedly also the most widespread of the Principality, although, currently, the main production areas had been cornered like Aramo (rivers, Morcín), Lower Nalon (Grao, Pravia) and Narcea (Salas).

Development Afuegalpitu

Since 1981, and continuously, has been held in Foz de Morcín the first Sunday after the January 17 Competition Cheese Afuega'l pitu more important.

Such events help to increase the fame of this cheese, which is now considered the second best-selling after Cabrales Asturias. And Grade Morcín are renowned producers of Afuega'l Pitu and ambassadors of the rich cheese not only our region but outside of Spain. Countries like U.S., Japan or Germany are receiving countries where cheese is having a good acceptance.

Covered by Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) has two main variants. The variant "Trapu”, zucchini or ball that is shaped like a chestnut. Here it is given by the rag in which it was draining.

Afuegalpitu

The "La Figar" are among the most famous of all winners and Asturias. In the parish of Foz de Morcín, D. Jaime Fernández run their artisan cheese and has been doing for many years following the ancient ways of the learned tradition.

Produces cheese Afuega'l pitu with the raw material for livestock family takes good pasture in the area.

The white variety of Afuega'l pitu, like the rest of the variants has a slightly sour taste is little or no salty, creamy and quite dry. It is astringent and paste as it passes through the throat or “pitu” (Asturian language buscar ).

These characteristics derive primarily from the acid curd, typical of this cheese.

Presentation: White Rag. Whole piece capsule wrapped in plastic and packed in modified atmosphere to contribute to the better preservation and maturation of this very special and delicate cheese.
